Lets give a swanky welcome to ARRIFIN for being part of the Trombone Section.
Being transferred from Euphonium section is easy. You just need to know the slide positions and playing etiquettes and it will go fine. Congratulations Arrifin.

To my three Secondary 1 recruits, do well and practice hard alright. Any problems faced, just ask your seniors. Hopefully they will pass down whatever knowledge they have to you.

Seniors, don't waste your time talking and talking about band matters. Practice your repertoire for this upcoming concert and your Section Ensemble piece.

The Annual Band Test will probably be tmr. Get ready all your minor and major scales, arpeggios, interval studies and scale studies. Dont worry much, you play wrong note, I will just pinch your arm.

Today's sectionals, full attendance, good. Joanne & Farah, keep up the good work on the ensemble piece. Qi Ying too, just get the 6/8 counting right and congratulations to you and Sir Rahim for memorising most of the scales. Ibqnu, I wish you luck the most for tmr. Your scales are okay but you kept on forgeting it.

Joanne, remember to cut out and assemble the ensemble piece on a plain paper for your convenience. Remember the 6/8; a crotchet is 2 counts while a semi-crotchet is a 1 count.

Next Sunday, the 28th there will be a section 'outing'. Yes an 'outing'. This is compulsory and no excuse will be accepted.

To those who is going to sit for your annual band test, make sure you guys practice your scales by hard and other studies. Just remember not to play too slow nor too fast. The tonguing and accents, just be aware of that.

Hopefully this year the teachers have kept their promise. We have worked hard and had achieved our goal for sustaining the Gold Award for 3 consecutive years for SYF. Their promise is to go overseas again but this time, a better destination. Hopefully it isnt like other years when they said they would want to go to Japan but we ended up at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dear Mr Pradeep, you should at least explain to us that the money we had given to you for the purchase of the SYF Photo 2007 was being used for the SYF Badge instead. Some alumni are still figuring out about this incident.

its been around a year since I've been named your Section Leader.
and i guess i had a lot of ups and downs.
i had pple leaving, then entering, leaving again, entering again.
so much confusion, so much changes needed to done.
but I'm glad, at the end of the day,
there was still the few of you whom stick together,
and persevered till the end.

Syf is finally over,
and although we may have some slight disappointment,
whats done is done.
you are a GOLD band member. that love ain't easy to achieved.
3 seniors will be leaving and the responsibility will be going to my Sec 3's.

Dear Ibqnu and Qi Ying,
you will be the seniors in the section,
and the juniors will be looking up to you.
be confident. i have taught you for ard 3 years.
I've seen you grown and I'm telling you,

7 judges, 7 individual views about our music
Before entering the hall, waiting for our turn to perform, we had breathing exercises to calm our senses. It does really help. Just before going in was about to make Ma'am Hajarah cry. Touching words that filled my mind. When I entered the hall, it felt like it was just another Band Fiesta performance but for you guys, my trombone section, I do not know how you feel. When we sat on the chair, I felt as if the 900+ hours of hard work is has been minimised to just 15 minutes. I've got to agree that the Overture No.1 we played was well enough; no minor mistakes could be heard from our area. The section infront of us was surprisingly 'flawless', the French Horn section and for that I would want to congratulate you guys for playing with such confidence.

Der Vogelhandler was well played and I can clearly hear the 2nd trombones play. I was very touched to see the whole section move especially Ma'am Hajarah; yet she did not realise that she was moving dramatically. The others too was moving and this makes me light hearted. I have to confessed that I breathed 'accidently' at half beat before letter 'M'. I have a strong feeling of regret soon after but all went well. The Fanfare part at letter 'X' was great. Sir Idil said that our tonguing was very clear and presise. And at last, the last note was always the nicest. Very strict chords.

After walking out of the hall, the feeling was very nice. Ma'am Hajarah and me was flushed with no emotions. Somehow nothing struck us; neither happiness, enjoyment or regret. Someone told me why and I said to them, we played like a Gold band, what for to worry. I was very confident that we will clench the Gold award. After minutes, we went into the hall and hear other bands play during the second interval.

The bands played really well and the bands did well. The last band and Singapore Chinese Girls Band somehow snatched my breath away. They deserve the award. Bowen Military caught my eye with their English Uniforms and it was nice, very nice.

The results for the bands was the critical part. The first band, St.Joseph Military Band clenched the Gold with Honours award. Congratulation guys! You seriously deserve the award with your fantastic playing. I understand with the situation during the results. If we got that award, we would also do that. Dont feel bad towards us dear SJI Bandmates. You have made your CCA a top standard in your school. Be proud that at last, your have gained victory. Show your school who you guys are. I pray that you guys are in the Top 3 list.

The other bands got silver, bronze and a COP. Canberra Band, you guys did well. Dont feel regret to what award you got. Just carry on and do well for your SYF 2011. Have faith in yourselves.

After getting the results, we head on down and get our instruments and headed for the bus bay. The woodwinds took the bus already and it was just us brasses and percussion. I bent down cheeks on my trombone then squatted, I cried. The feeling of dissapointment struck hard all of the sudden. Yes Sir Sufi, you reminded me about 'its just a name' but it does make a difference to me and some other people. But I think we deserve with what we got and we have surely sustained the Gold award.

People out there who looked down at Marsiling Secondary School Concert Band, WE HAVE PROVED TO YOU THAT WE DIDNT GET THAT GOLD BY LUCK. I am proud of my section, The Warriors of Slides, and The Whole Band!. WE HAVE MADE OUR MARK again.

Somehow we guys gave our 100% confidence, somehow, during the performance. I am proud of you guys except for the last part, when we are suppose to walk down and out of the hall. Well, luckily i pulled you guys back. Yes, paiseh is the only word to describe when hundreds of people eyed on our movements. And after hearing Ma'am Helina screaming, "HELINA HOT!!", "BAEK ISKANDAR!!", and other quotes that filled the hall, i felt awkward. And Qi Ying! You made me laugh hor with your reaction together with Hajarah during the 'paiseh' part. And thanks Tze Cin for supporting our section.

Comments were good when the whole band is concerned but how about the section? I fell that we did well. A little mistakes here and there and we shall brush up on them today, during sectionals. 3 more days to the great performance, lets hope and pray the section infront of us wont make mistakes and the fanfare section will make the opening more grand.

Lets stand to our pride and show them that, the section has improved, again.

Ibqnu and Rahim, please dont repeat your mistake at letter I. I dont give a damn if you guys dont play up to my standard. MAKE A MISTAKE AND YOU WILL GET IT FROM ME.

Hajarah, you section leader, REMEMBER YOUR LEGATO . You dont need me to remind you everytime about that 'no-bell tone' place. You forget about that legato, you'll get it from me.

Qi Ying, so far so good but head dont big hor. There is still alot to improve on.

Ma'am Sabrina, it doesnt mean that you are out of SYF means that you cannot go for band. You still need to go for band, you are still part of the trombone family. I know you need to perform your prayers at home but try to rush back here. Eventhough you are my senior but it doesnt mean that i cant confront you.

Ma'am Haniz, thanks for that motivational talk given to us yesterday. Sufi, thanks for coming down yesterday for teaching the sec 1s. Btw, Ma'am Haniz, we can live by ourselves. Dont worry.

Combine sectionals yesterday is great. Keep up your standards. And rahim, STOP WITH YOUR HEADACHES. It is seriously pestering me. Tomorrow rehearsal for Achievement Day, make sure you guys all play confidently. No files are allowed tomorrow. On thursday, make sure we guys play confidently too in the Hall of SJI. Friday perform well for Achievement Day. SATURDAY GIVE YOUR 98% CONFIDENCE AND SHOW THEM THAT WE DIDNT GET THAT PIECE OF THING BY LUCK. And also, show Mrs Chua and Sir Mr Tan that we have improved greatly.

Remember not to dissapoint me again. If you guys flop again, it will just be a more chronic dissapointment

The Trombone section is improving.

For Overture No. 1, remember what Our Sir has taught. During sectionals, please revise through and discuss among our sectionmates about how to improve that particular part. Always be constant with your playing and always improve. For Letter B, Ma'am Hajarah, Sir Ibqnu and Sir Iskandar, please play out louder as what Our Sir has told. We have been planning of cutting and adding some parts to make the section sound more pleasant and work will commence on Monday during sectionals. It is going to be confusing but this is for the sake of SYF. Hopefully, this idea will work.

Today, Sir Iskandar made problems as he cannot cope with studies.

Somehow he felt sorry to what have happened. Like what his mum said, "He followed me because both of us are fickle-minded".

Sectionals just now was the most hardest i tell you.

Hajarah, busy with our sec 1 recruit. Sir Sufi, you should help out next time.
Qi Ying, you made your sir isk mad, but he was trying his best to cool down
Ibqnu, you mad him mad too. Staccato properly please. Legato properly please.
Rahim even more, with your playing which sounds like sir sufi's 'piang piang' tone.

But soon after, we combined with the french horn section. Cant say much except Asyura, too playful. And then we went for combined with the whole band, outside the DNT room and the Gym. Ms Ong said it was impressive as there is 'stereo effect' being the percussion to be in the middle, the tuba and saxaphone section metres away from the trombones, clarinets and other sections. With Ms Jean siting at the bridge-linkway while hearing us play the set and choice piece.

Dear Ma'am Sabrina, sorry but you are not able to perform for SYF. I, your junior, Iskandar, know how much hurt you will feel. I will feel hurt and very down if i am not able to perform for the SYF. The feeling is very intense but please Ma'am Sabrina, we have our reasons to why you are not able to perform. Ms Jean has her reasons. Dont blame our Sir, Mr Tan, because of not letting you compete. The teachers are the one who decides your fate for competing with us in the '09 SYF, and you too Ma'am Sabrina. There is still time for you to change.

Tomorrow, we are going to film our marching. Dear Trombonists, march like a marching band. Remember what Sir Iskandar thought you. And Ma'am Haniz, about the position of Trombones at 110 degrees off ground during our Mia Musica II practice, with the FanFare Section.
